Andrei Lankov was born on July 26, 1963 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and finished his undergraduate and graduate studies at Leningrad University. During his studies, he had a chance to study at Kim Il Sung University, Pyongyang from 1984 to 1985. In 1996, he started to teach students at the National University of Australia, and since 2004, he has taught students at Kookmin University. Professor Lankov has researched the society, politics, and history of North Korea. He has authored a number of papers about North Korea and they have been published by eminent journals, including “Foreign Affairs” and “Foreign Policy”. He is also a regular contributor to the “New York Times”, “The Wall Street Journal”, and “Financial Times”.
